Feeling dismissed while seeking an MS diagnosis
Antonio speaks up about the dismissal he experienced while searching for an MS diagnosis.

I felt as if the color of my skin did keep me away from getting the help I needed.

Initially, when I was diagnosed with MS back in January of 2022, I felt as if my doctor at the time
wasn't really listening to me. I'm a Mexican-Latino person. And I felt as if I was being shunned.
I was looked at as not as important as somebody else of a lighter race. My neurologist at the time didn't really
listen to the symptoms I was experiencing like bladder control and constant tremors in my hand, even the walking difficulties.
She really just thought it was maybe stress or anxiety and pushed me away.
I moved to Dearborn, Michigan. I got a new neurologist. And he really listened to what I had to say.
