What are the best nutrients to build strong bones? It's not just about calcium and vitamin D. To ward off osteoporosis, you'll want
a balanced diet that includes some of these nutrients. Phosphorus-- this is a mineral that
is found in your bones and your teeth. Foods rich in calcium and protein, such as dairy and yogurt, are good sources of phosphorus,
too. Vitamin A-- you can find vitamin A in fish, dark green leafy vegetables, citrus fruits,
cheese, and eggs. Vitamin B12-- this vitamin helps your bones by forming new red blood cells in your bone marrow.
Great sources of vitamin B12 include meat, fish, eggs, and fortified cereal.
Vitamin C-- this antioxidant is essential for collagen formation. Collagen acts like the scaffold that bones are built upon.
Foods rich in vitamin C include broccoli, bell peppers, cauliflower, kale, lemons, and strawberries.
Vitamin K-- this vitamin activates calcium and bone formation. You can find it in broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage,
olive oil, and spinach. [AUDIO LOGO]
