We're seeing a lot of what we call maskne. JEN CAUDLE: Maskne? Am I saying it right? OK. SANDRA LEE: It's weird to say, yeah. [MUSIC PLAYING]
People are getting acne breakouts under here, under their masks because it's, like, the perfect environment for acne to want to grow.
I mean, our skin can be naturally oily. There are some of us that are more oily than others. And then you're breathing into this area, this really
humid environment. What happens is this oil, this increased oil kept in that area, this humidity can clog your pores.
So that's just the perfect environment for bacteria to thrive, and that's when you get those acne bumps. I mean, I can't even tell you how many people
came just this week. Dr. Minaya, look at my chin. I'm breaking out like crazy. Anything that you can do? The two things that I would really
try to recommend for most people is try not to wear makeup under the area. Right.
Good point. You know, try not to put excess things on your skin in that area. Yes. Try to keep your masks clean. I know that's not always easy, especially for us
that work in the health care. We really have to reuse a lot of our masks unfortunately. Cloth masks are probably better in terms
of being more breathable. Right? You know, they tell us that's why cotton socks are made out of cotton, that kind of thing. Right.
They're more breathable. But they might not protect you as much. So you know, again, there's a whole debate here.
And the other thing that I really like is I keep in my car these little swipes. It's really nice to get-- they're
available over the counter. You can find them in many different lines, you know, things that have glycolic or salicylic acid in them.
Oh. And they're really easy-- That's a good idea. --'cause you just keep them in your purse and you just swipe them across your face. It's like giving yourself a little mini chemical peel,
exfoliating, cleaning out those pores-- Ah. Love it. --between having to put the mask on again. You know? That kind of thing.
Thank you. Those are-- I'm over here taking notes. Yeah, so am I. Yes [MUSIC PLAYING]
