Access to resources for diabetes patients of color
Donella, a diabetes patient, describes the importance of being an advocate for yourself while seeking care and information.
Transcript
I had to take charge of my life because it's important, especially as a Black woman.
Honestly, I don't-- I'm not sure if my doctors share all the information possible. It was difficult for me to receive some of the information
more so than the treatment. I wanted to tell him about me trying to, you know, eat healthier.
He told me no. You need to take this medicine and exercise. I've researched myself and figured out different ways
to eat, exercise, you know, taking different fruits that are better for your health and that can, you know,
regulate your blood sugar and, you know, try to just make sure you maintain your sugar because if it gets too high, you know,
you can get things cut off. You can, you know-- it's you can die. So I don't want to die, not yet.
