What Is Epigenomics?
In this video, Eric Green, MD, Director of the National Human Genome Research Institute, explains epigenomics and how it's used to measure how our body "blueprint" is doing.
Transcript
Epigenetics or epigenomics-- these are largely synonymous words-- reflects a whole other language by which our blueprint
is doing its job to contain information and convey it for biological function.
Specifically what it is, it consists of things that are done to our DNA-- ways our DNA is modified
or things that become associated with our DNA that influences how our blueprint gets read. Maybe that's the simplest way.
And what gets particularly interesting is that there are aspects of environment, lifestyle, diet,
and so forth that can influence how our DNA gets modified and therefore how our blueprint gets read.
