Common atopic dermatitis triggers
Not everyone with atopic dermatitis, or eczema, experiences the same triggers. Doris Day, MD, discusses common triggers for eczema and ways you can minimize their effect on your condition.

One thing that we know about atopic dermatitis is that there are triggers for it. So this could be personal in that you
may have a trigger that somebody else doesn't have if they also have the same condition. It could be something that you ate or a change in climate.
For some people, it's worse in the summer. For others, it's worse in the winter. And for most people, it's worse with a change of seasons.
Just that natural change of season can be a stressor that can trigger your atopic dermatitis. Other triggers can be dryness of the skin, scratching.
It can be a product you use, a fragrance, or a preservative, or an ingredient in a product. So there are many triggers.
You'll start to learn and identify what your personal triggers are, learn to avoid them, and learn ways to manage it when you are accidentally or somehow
exposed to those in ways that are unavoidable so that you can minimize how bad the eczema gets and help it clear as
quickly as possible. One other prominent trigger is allergens. These are sometimes seasonal or sometimes in specific products.
And that trigger, hopefully, you'll be able to avoid it. If not, if it's a seasonal allergen, then you can plan ahead and sort of put on your calendar
when you'll be exposed to that allergen and plan and start your treatment ahead of time in order to minimize how much that exposure will
cause your eczema to flare and even avoid it altogether. The most important thing is to understand what your personal triggers are and how
